A group of mayors from southern districts of Moldova declare their support for the joint candidate of the center-right opposition Maia Sandu. The mayors issued a statement, saying it is their duty to defend their communities from a deceitful candidate like the Party of Socialists’ candidate Igor Dodon. The statement says Igor Dodon is a persona non grata in the communes Abaclia and Sadaclia and in Cimislia town, which these mayors represent.
In a news conference at IPN, the mayors expressed their concern about the lies and misinformation that penetrated the public area, generated by the Socialist candidate. According to them, these lies start to endanger the correctness of the runoff elections and the constitutional right of the people to correct information.
“We call on the mayors from all over the country – protect the voters from a liar, from Igor Dodon, who is the candidate of oligarch Plahotniuc and of the corrupt system of the Republics of Moldova. Only protecting the people from a liar, can we offer them the chance to choose an upright person as President, who will be the President of the people,” reads the statement of the mayors.
Mayor of Cimislia town Gheorghe Raileanu said the corrupt system of Moldova must be eradicated and the President is the first who should be replaced. “We need a person devoted to the nation, who would be sufficiently trained, would have character and would have the abilities needed to manage the country. I think Maia Sandu is the most powerful politician that we had since we declared our independence. She is reliable, young and well trained. She has qualities similar to those of Grigore Vieru. I always compare this svelte woman with Grigore Vieru, who was unbeatable,” stated Gheorghe Raileanu.
Mayor of Abaclia Victor Niculita called on the people to be more attentive to the manipulations to which candidate Igor Dodon resorts. “Maia Sandu is the candidate who represents us. We must be more united in the European idea. My call is to continue on the European path,” he stated.
Vasile Baciu, mayor of Sadaclia, said he wants the country to get rid of corruption and to be modernized as he wants to live in a European country. For this to happen, the people must vote consciously for the candidate who is able to do this. “Dear parents and grandparents, on November 13 we choose the future of our children and grandchildren. We know that we are manipulated. You are told that you will not have your pensions increased, but, with Mister Dodon, you will have no pensions at all,” he said.
The mayors called on the people to vote actively and not to be indifferent to their future and to make a conscious choice.
