Mayors elected in three out of five villages in snap elections last Sunday

In three out of five villages where snap elections were held on Sunday, November 11, mayors were elected in the first round, with the remaining two villages to go to the polls again in a fortnight, on November 25, Info-Prim Neo learned from Central Election Commission Secretary Andrei Volentir.
According to preliminary results, in Morenii Noi, Ungheni district, the winner is Democrat Serghei Suprovoci, who polled 50.4% of the villagers' votes.
In Albina, Cimislia district, independent candidate Nicolae Bicos emerged victorious by a landslide, garnering 87.8%.
Democrat Ion Bizu won the election with 60.89% in Cirpesti, Cantemir districts.
A pun-off will be held in two weeks in Danu, Glodeni district between Democrat Mihail Ursu (42.45%) and Communist Zinovia Timinscaia (27,29%).
In Hristici, Soroca, the second round will see Liberal-Democrat Eugenia Raileanu (34.3%) challenge Democrat Dumitru Cebotari (46.1%).
In Danu and Morenii Noi, snap elections were called after their mayors died, and in Hristici and Albina after their mayors resigned. In Cirpesti, the outcome of the June 2011 elections was invalidated by court.
The mayors elected on Sunday will serve a term of just three years, as opposed to the regular term of four years, until the 2015 general elections.
