The PAS group on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) accuse the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban of gathering money for his new party with the assistance of the ”real estate mafia”. The mayor is accused of allowing stifling and unacceptable constructions to appear in the city’s districts at a time when the inhabitants of Chisinau are suffocated by traffic jams and do not have places at kindergartens and schools for their children, IPN reports.

In a news conference given at 16 Ginta Latină St, PAS group deputy head Zinaida Popa said that a multistory building is to be erected in that place. In the last meeting of the CMC, the mayor included five zonal urban development plans, which would have paralyzed the capital’s districts, in the agenda. After the PAS councilors’ reaction, one of the mayor’s deputies cancelled the meeting, invoking pandemic reasons.

After the new residential complexes are erected, the families that will live there will not have a school or a kindergarten where to take their children to as the projects do not include such aspects. Moreover, the flow of cars in traffic will expand given the problematic public transport situation. This is not the first time that the City Hall allows to build new blocks without ensuring the necessary social infrastructure.

“The PAS group on the CMC was and will be against irresponsible constructions that suffocate the residents of Chisinau. Any approved residential complex should ensure the building of elementary infrastructure for decent living so that the new dwellers have schools, kindergartens, parking places, playgrounds and green areas,” stated Zinaida Popa.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, mayor general Ion Ceban’s communications consultant Natalia Ixari said PAS councilors’ statements are political in character and are aimed at misleading the people and at distracting the citizens’ attention from serious problems, such as the recent price rises caused by the Government’s decisions. “This is a devious method to protect themselves now that the mayor submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office about the latest increases in natural gas and heating rates that will be applied retroactively as from January 1,” stated the consultant.
