Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca turns 32 on August 9. Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu presented him with a bouquet of white roses from all his colleagues in the local public administration, wishing him good health and happy birthday. He said that the mayor in a short period achieved much more results than other servants throughout their life.
“I want things to go smooth at the City Hall and in Chisinau. Then I will be really happy on my birthday. I dedicated the last three years of my life exclusively to this institution. The professional life interwove with the personal one. We will live to see the results of our work,” said the mayor.
Dorin Chirtoaca was born in Chisinau. He graduated from the high school “Gheorghe Asachi” in 1993. In four years, he received the baccalaureate diploma from the Iasi-based high school “Constantin Negruzzi”. In 2001, he graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Bucharest and the Franco-Romanian Law College for European Studies. Immediately after graduation, he worked as editor and editor-in-chief of the program “Surprize, Surprize” on the Romanian channel TVR 1. Afterward, he returned to Chisinau and worked as project coordinator at the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova.
Dorin Chirtoaca entered politics in 2005, when he was elected as vice president of the Liberal Party. He became mayor of Chisinau on June 17, 2007, when he polled 61.17% of the vote beating his Communist opponent Veaceslav Iordan.
According to subdivision heads, Dorin Chirtoaca is a respected mayor as he knows and deals with the problems faced by Chisinau and promotes innovative ideas.
