The Moldovan tennis received a severe blow. One of the leaders of the national tennis team Maxim Dubarenco decided to represent Belarus from now on, IPN reports.
The 22-year-old tennis player will soon be granted the nationality of this country. The information was confirmed by the president of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber. Several weeks ago, Dubarenco sent a letter to the Federation, informing that he will not present himself at the Davis Cup match against Hungary if he is not paid the premium for the match against Denmark.
“This is an invention by Dubarenco. He reached an agreement with the Belarusians even last year, when the Moldova – Belarus match was played in Chisinau. Dubarenco’s leaving is a great loss,” Marina Tauber stated for IPN.
Maxim Dubarenco was unavailable for comment. He is one of the most valuable Moldovan tennis players, who was No. 2 in the national squad, after Radu Albot. On March 6-8, Moldova meets Hungary in a new Davis Cup duel in Gyor.
