The fourth Goalkeepers Battle at the Zimbru Stadium ended with a big surprise. Two goalkeepers who didn’t play in the last season went through to the final of the competition, IPN reports.
The winner Maxim Copelciuc played no match yet for FC Tiraspol, while Mihai Moraru stopped playing after Rapid withdrew from the championship. Copelciuc won the final without problems because Moraru suffered an injury in the semifinal. Even so, both of the finalists were awarded generously. Copelciuc received US$3,000, while Moraru – US$1,000. In the up to 17 age bracket, the winner Emil Tambur of Zimbru won US$1,000.
Nicolae Calancea, who won the first two battles, was the favorite of the competition. The goalkeeper of Ceahlaul was beaten in the quarterfinals by Andrei Chilari of Olimpia.
The Goalkeepers Battle is staged by the former national team goalkeeper Andrian Bogdan. The invitee of honor this year was the winner of the 1986 UEFA Champions Cup Helmuth Duckadam.
