A Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit will be set up at the Mother and Child Institute for pregnant women from all over the country to gain access to new medical examination methods that enable to early detect fetal chromosomal and genetic abnormalities, IPN reports.
The Unit will be founded on the basis of a memorandum that was signed by Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Nicolaos Dendias and the chairman of the Fetal Medicine Foundation of the UK, Professor Kypros Nikolaides. Under the document, a maternal fetal medicine program will be implemented in 2022-2025.
Also, two obstetricians from the Republic of Moldova will benefit from professional training fellowships provided by the FMF. The doctors will acquire skills in diagnosing fetal abnormalities, congenital anomalies, diseases in pregnant women, which lead to premature birth and death, under the guidance of Professor Kypros Nikolaides, who is one of the most famous specialists in maternal fetal medicine.
A professional training program centering on maternal fetal medicine will be designed at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
