Ukraine and Moldova are on the same front line and are fighting against Russian military aggression, says Marko Shevchenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Moldova. According to the diplomat, 32 years after the proclamation of Independence, Ukraine is fighting to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the good part is that the Ukrainian army is advancing and gradually liberating its territories.

According to the Ukrainian ambassador, the war is far from over, but the whole society is convinced that, thanks to the support of external partners and the firm will of Ukrainians to live freely, victory will be on the side of Ukraine. Marko Shevchenko expressed his gratitude for the support offered by the Republic of Moldova to the Ukrainian people.

“We are glad that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova are on the same front line against unjust Russian aggression. It is on this day that we understand that independence is not something theoretical, it is something very practical. Something which you not only adopted three decades ago, but you also have to fight to defend your right to live in an independent state and to choose freely where you want to develop. On the one hand, we are fighting for our independence, but on the other hand, we are glad that we are not alone in this fight, that we have partners, we have allies and, in fact, the whole civilized world is on our side. At this point, the war is far from over, unfortunately, but things have changed. Ukraine is currently advancing, our soldiers are advancing, this is a good sign”, said Marko Shevchenko during a show on Vocea Basarabiei.

The ambassador added that the Ukrainian army has already succeeded in liberating half of the temporarily occupied territories. According to Marko Shevchenko, the speed with which the Ukrainian army is advancing is low because Russia has solidly fortified its defense lines.

“Ukraine has recovered almost half of the territories that were occupied by Russia in the beginning, the northern part of Ukraine, the regions of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, partly Zhitomir, a large part of Kherson and Nikolaev, Kharkiv region. Now our soldiers are advancing in the Zaporizhia region, in Donetsk and Lugansk regions. We are advancing not as fast as we did last year, because the defense lines are intensively fortified by the Russians. But the important thing is that the vector has changed and now the Ukrainians are liberating their territories, and not the Russian occupiers who are advancing”, the Ukrainian diplomat added.

On Thursday, Ukraine celebrated its Independence Day.
