“The recovery of the financial-banking system of Moldova is a difficult process. Things that happened during the last 25 years have to be remedied and I think that no realist reformist expects results overnight,” Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said in an interview for Radio Free Europe. The diplomat noted that Romania wants to have a clear picture of the way in which the banking system of Moldova looks now, IPN reports.
“Surely we know how it should look tomorrow and in the best days that will follow, but I think that a clear image of the health of the Moldovan banking system or its absence today should be a starting point. That’s why for us it is very important for the audit of the three banks that were placed by the central bank of Moldova in an advanced supervision system should be completed so that the experts have access to this analysis,” stated Marius Lazurca.
According to the diplomat, the billions of lei from the public budget used to repay the bad loans and the fraud at the three banks that disappeared will be possible covered with state securities, which is will enter as budget effort in Moldova’s budget for the next 25 years. “So, I fear the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will feel the burden of the bank frauds during the next 25 years of Moldova’s life, which is as much as since gaining independence. Thus, what we want to know is if there are yet undiscovered problems in the banking system that can have an impact similar to the one had by Banca de Economii, Unibank and Banca Sociala in the past,” said the ambassador.
As to the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, the diplomat said the technical studies are ready and the construction works will start this year so that the pipeline and the two compressor stations are finished in 2018. “We are also ready to cover the technical study of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, which is the first stage before the construction works, by engaging the Romanian firm “Transgaz” - an established firm with very important engineering capacities,” he stated.
Marius Lazurca noted that there are now no delays and a very clear roadmap with precise technical indicators is being followed and there are also written documents of the understandings between the two countries.
