The president of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said he was surprised by Mihai Godea's defection from the PLDM and his intention run for the mayoralty of Chisinau independently. As the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat, Marian Lupu believes that Mihai Godea's actions represent a blow to the ruling alliance, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press briefing on May 5, Marian Lupu said Mihai Godea’s leaving should be discussed inside the alliance in order to clarify the situation. “This problem causes difficulties in the alliance’s work and influences public opinion. The given subject is not an internal affair of the Liberal Democratic Party anymore. It is a key subject for discussion within the Alliance for European Integration,” said the Head of Parliament He stressed that he personally wants to find out more details about the circumstances that made Mihai Godea leave and informed that, as Head of Parliament and one of the leaders of the ruling alliance, he may convene a private meeting with the former first vice president of the PLDM. Asked to comment on Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s affirmation that Godea’s defection was orchestrated by a puppeteer, who may be the first Deputy Speaker and PDM member Vlad Plahotniuc, Marian Lupu said these are insinuations. “The related assertions point to the existence of problems inside the PLDM. Our colleagues should first analyze the situation and establish how it can be remedied and then make statements,” said Marian Lupu, referring to the fact that Mihai Godea is not the first heavyweight who left the PLDM. The journalists asked Marian Lupu if it’s true that Mihai Godea met with Vlad Plahotniuc in Vienna. The Speaker said there is no dictatorship in the PDM and no one is told where to go and with whom to talk, but both Vlad Plahotniuc and Mihai Godea refuted that they had met.
