Marian Lupu announced his return to politics, noting that the decision was dictated by the sociopolitical situation in the country. He is to take over the position of chairman of the Respect Moldova Party, which is currently led by Eugeniu Nikiforchuk, IPN reports.

"I am returning to political activity. I understand, objectively, that the current conditions are not at all easy. But it is a risk taken. No one in politics offers you guarantees, but I feel that it is time for everyone in society, younger, older, to get involved," Marian Lupu said in an online program.

"There is only one option and this one is the Respect Moldova Party – an officially registered party. It is a platform, a vehicle by which one can become involved in these political activities," said Marian Lupu.

As for the Respect Moldova Party, Marian Lupu said that it is made up of professionals with experience in governance and with institutional memory necessary to manage the processes in the Republic of Moldova.

"The team matters not less. They are professionals. There were ministers, deputy ministers, secretaries of state, heads of agencies at different stages. So, there is institutional memory that is necessary today," he stated.

Marian Lupu held the position of president of the Court of Auditors from February 7, 2019 to March 21, 2024. In the past, he was chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova and held important positions in the state, including that of Speaker of Parliament and interim head of state.
