The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu assures that a government coalition will be formed, either with the Communists or the Liberals. He made such a statement after a new round of trilateral PLDM-PDM-PL negotiations held in the evening of January 13, IPN reports.

According to Lupu, the new round of talks produced again no results and it is the Liberals who are to blame for such a situation. The discussions will continue, but the Liberals should better review their position on the post of head of state.

“There were achieved no results. Nothing changed. Things remained at the same stage. We continue the discussions on the old platform and on the new platform that was staged today. We invited all the players. I do not want to comment on someone’s statements, but nobody changed their position since yesterday evening (January 12 – e.n.). It is premature to draw conclusions, but there is not much time left and we must make sure that the government is formed so as to ensure the transformations and modernization in the country and implement the Association Agreement with the EU,” stated the Democratic leader.

Marian Lupu also assured that the Parliament sitting will take place this week and the executive bodies of the legislature will be elected. “The discussions cannot last for two-three months or even for another two-three weeks. We will make everything possible for the sitting of Parliament to be held this week,” he said.

As to the dialogue initiated with the Communists, Lupu said that they are constructive and he is not angry with the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin for insulting him publicly, such indulgence being something typical for a ‘responsible politician’.

Marian Lupu described the intention of the oldest MP Eduard Smirnov, of the Party of Socialists, to convoke Parliament on January 15 as an irresponsible and illegal act. “Smirnov started with the left at the very first sitting. He is an ordinary lawmaker and does not have such powers. It is a violation of the Parliament’s Regulations,” noted the chairman of the PDM.
