Marcel Spatari resigned as Minister of Labor and Social Protection. The announcement was made in a news conference given together with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița in the Government Building, IPN reports.

Premier Gavrilița thanked the minister, saying that important labor market reforms were launched during Spatari’s tenure. A national program to provide energy subsidies was worked out, the legislation on crèches was modernized, etc. “I thank you, Mister Spatari, for working as part of the Cabinet team, for making an enormous leadership, managerial and professional effort, with a lot of dedication and integrity. I thank you for the done reforms, the achieved results and I further bank on your contribution,” stated the official.

For his part, Marcel Spatari said that a year and a half ago, he accepted with confidence to form part of the current government team and could this way contribute to the promoted reforms and to the improvement of social policies. “Today I tendered my resignation and such a move will trigger a change at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The decision to resign is strictly personal in character, but is simultaneously assumed and prepared as it had been coordinated beforehand with my colleagues,” said Marcel Spatari.

In the same news conference, Alexei Buzu, executive director of the Center “Partnership for Development”, was presented as the new minister of labor and social protection.

Marcel Spatari was named minister of labor in the Gavrilița Government in August 2021. Before this, he served as director general of Syndex Romania, which forms part of the French group Syndex.
He offered consultancy on socioeconomic issues, labor rights and industrial relations for companies and representatives of salary earners from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and the European Union.
