Felix Tataru, the managing director of the Bucharest-based advertising agency GMP, who has been responsible for the campaigns of President Traian Basescu since 2000, categorically rejects the information according to which he was involved in the campaign of the communist candidate for Chisinau Mayor, Veaceslav Iordan. In an interview offered to “Gardianul” newspaper, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, Tataru specified that he met with Iordan’s electoral staff, but he rejected the offer, after he learned that the candidate is supported by the Party of Communists. “I would never make a layout picturing the hammer and sickle”, Felix Tataru says. According to him, he was called by the Iorda’s staff head, “Madam Popa” in early or mid-April. “She said she saw the campaigns made by us and that she wanted something similar in Moldova”. At that moment, she did not say she represented the Party of Communists, but an independent candidate. Naturally, I asked her if he is popular, and when she offered details, I found that she is from the Party of Communists. When I figured what is it all about, I refused the offer”, Tataru said. Veaceslav Iordan had a promotional campaign in the first round, which was appreciated by the specialists as energetic, sometimes too insistent and even little aggressive. In the runoff elections, this visual campaign was practically missing, and the anonymity effect was amplified by the fact that the communist candidate did not attend televised debates. In the first round, 59,960 persons voted for Veaceslav Iordan and in the runoff elections, according to the preliminary data – 82,653 persons, clearly losing to his rival Dorin Chirtoaca.
