The explosion that occurred in a food store situated at the intersection of the streets Armeneasca and Mateevici in Chisinau was caused by one of the two men who died in the blast. This was in his 50s and was from Chisinau. He had been earlier tried for several times.

The man came to the store to buy cigarettes. He took a pack and wanted to go out. When the sales clerk told him to pay for the cigarettes, an explosive device fell from the man’s hand or his rucksack and exploded. The information was presented by the head of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari in a press briefing.

He said the destruction power of the explosive device was aimed at the street, where there was a man, who also died on the spot. His identity hasn’t been yet determined. The call to the 902 service was made at 11:08am.

There were four persons in the store. No one else was hurt. Spokeswoman for the National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Center Diana Blanaru has told IPN earlier that a person who was injured in the same explosion called an ambulance at home and was taken to the Emergency Medicine Institute.
