The party “National Alternative Movement” pleads for making the European integration a national idea and proposes holding public consultations and later signing the “Chisinau Pact”, similar to the “Snagov Pact”, the party’s leader Ion Ceban announced in a press briefing, IPN reports.

“Similar to the “Snagov Pact”, the signatories express their commitment to ensure the development of the Republic of Moldova by promoting the democratic values, the rule of law, the separation of powers, free and fair elections and the respect for human rights, including the rights of national minorities,” stated Ion Ceban.

According to the text of the “Chisinau Pact” announced by Ion Ceban, “the national strategic goal of accession to the European Union is the most important factor for strengthening the solidarity and unity of society. The European integration will offer the Republic of Moldova possibilities of bridging the gap between it and the leading countries by internal efforts and broad cooperation. The signatories of this pact consider that owing to the efforts to harmonize the legislation, the implementation of reforms and the gradual increase in the living standards, the Republic of Moldova will be able to fulfill the main conditions for accession and until 2030 will become a full-fledged member of the EU,” said Ion Ceban, reading the text of the “Chisinau Pact” that is to be proposed for public consultations.

“I want to note that we will transmit the “Chisinau Pact” to all the decision makers, to civil society, political parties and diplomatic missions accredited to Chisinau. The main goal is to unite all the citizens as, pursuing the same goal, the European integration can became a national idea,” stated Ion Ceban.

He noted it is absolutely necessary for society to unite around the idea of European integration now that there is great openness on the part of all the international institutions. “It is important for all the forces to unite and no one should be excluded. On the contrary, we should be allies on this major and important path for our country. The idea of European integration should not be polarized. It should unite everyone. We must combine forces if we want to do good to this country,” said Ion Ceban.

Asked by journalists what made him change his pro-Russian orientation to the pro-European one, Ion Ceban didn’t give an exact response, saying that he does not think that “this formulation determines the actions or the behavior. It is important to focus on the reform agenda”.
