The owner of a currency exchange facility in Căușeni was sentenced to 10 years in prison for ordering the murder of a relative of his. The latter also owned a currency exchange facility in the town and the former was dissatisfied with the exchange rates set by his relative as he considered them disadvantageous to his business, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that the murder was ordered in 2016 and the killer was to receive $5,000 dollars. To this end, the 60-year-old defendant talked to a former convict whom he paid in advance for the preparation of the murder.

However, the person, who was supposed to carry out the murder, reported him to the police. The defendant was detained in a forest outside the town when he came to meet the alleged murderer. The latter was to present him with the proof of the murder – the body of his relative - and get the US5,000.

At the time of his arrest, the defendant had a stick with a knife blade with a length of 15 cm, which was to be used to check the alleged corpse.

Pronouncing the sentence, the court banned the defendant from leaving the Republic of Moldova until the judicial process is over.
