The main Christmas Tree of the country, which is traditionally placed in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau, this year will be near the Triumphal Arch. Most probably, the local authorities will decorate one of the trees that grows near the Triumphal Arch. The announcement was made by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca on November 23, IPN reports.
The mayor said that employees of the lighting company “Lumteh” will examine the situation to see how the festoon and baubles used the previous years can be put up. This year the celebrations will be more modest. A Christmas fair will be mounted on the alley in the Cathedral’s Park.
Dorin Chirtoaca stated that the winter holidays will be launched officially on December 1, when the Christmas Tree will be inaugurated and the holiday illumination on the streets of Chisinau will be turned on.
Last year, the Christmas Tree was about 20 meters in height. It was decorated with over 1,000 red and silver baubles and more than 2 kilometers of festoon. The fir tree last year was donated by a municipal company. The previous years the local authorities bought one for 10,000 to 15,000 lei.
