“We were a big European family! Yesterday we were impressively many in number, but our voice was one – the Moldovans are Europeans and Moldova should become a fully-fledged member of the European Union until 2030,” President Maia Sandu said, addressing the Moldovans from the country and the diaspora who took part in the European Moldova Assembly on May 21, IPN reports.
President Sandu noted that “yesterday Moldova was proud – everyone saw that the Moldovans are a dignified nation who say what they want and are firm in the decisions regarding the country. The European Moldova Assembly brought together people with light and faith in the soul, citizens from all over the world who sang the national anthem and danced Romanian round dances, children and older persons who looked with joy and optimism into the future,” stated Maia Sandu, noting the Moldovans clearly affirmed that Moldova is European and it belongs to the free countries of the EU.
The European Moldova Assembly called by President Maia Sandu was planned as an event that will transmit a firm message to the international community about the sincere wish of the Moldovans to be part of the European family.
The participants in the European Moldova Assembly – over 75,000 people who came together in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau and Moldovans from outside the country who gathered together in over 50 cities across the globe - adopted a resolution by which they ask to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova to establish the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union as irreversible and definitive. The document says that this common aspiration of the citizens must be fulfilled by all political actors in the Republic of Moldova.
