The president of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu said the future President of the Republic of Moldova should be an honest person who will defend the people’s interests and will build a state with independent institutions. According to the former Prime Minister, Igor Dodon has none of the aforementioned qualities and the political right should be united in the upcoming presidential elections.
“We should be united on the right and should realize that Igor Dodon is our common opponent. He is the one who significantly reduces the chances for this country to ultimately live well. Therefore, we need this common front. If we compare the situation this year with that of 2016, we see that the risks for some of the candidates of the right are not as big. The PDM does not have a candidate similar to that of Plahotniuc in 2016, who was massively supported by administrative resources, TV channels, money and there was the risk that no one from the opposition would reach the runoffs. This risk does not exist now, but we must be aware that Igor Dodon is the opponent and we should help the country get rid of him. Respectively, our campaign should be correct, especially on the pro-European segment, and we should have messages aimed against corruption, those who are corrupt, those who are people’s enemies,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Fourth Power” on N4 TV channel.
Asked what President Moldova should have, the politician enumerated several qualities that she considers run counter to the qualities of incumbent President Igor Dodon.
“The Republic of Moldova needs an honest President, but Igor Dodon is not an honest man and we know this. The Republic of Moldova needs a President who would safeguard the interests of the own citizens. Igor Dodon does not do this. He is in a trap and has to defend the interests of other countries. We need a person who believes and knows how to build a state and powerful state institutions, such as the prosecution service, the judicial system, the National Bank and everything that means a state with independent and powerful institutions that start to solve people’s problems and to restore people’s confidence in this country. Today confidence in the state Republic of Moldova is very low and this is dangerous,” opined Maia Sandu.
In this connection, the ex-Premier said she is a person who never stole and will do her best to contribute and strengthen the independence of the national institutions.
“I’m an independent person. I didn’t accept money to finance my political party. We decided in favor of transparent financing. The citizens who supported us financially or by their vote and encouragements are those to whom we should report,” stated the politician.
