The electoral process in the Republic of Moldova is marked by problems inherited from the past, such as illegal financing of parties, propaganda and disinformation in the public sphere, hate speech and voter corruption, President Maia Sandu stated in a meeting with members of the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), who are paying a pre-electoral visit to Moldova in connection with the July 11 snap parliamentary elections, IPN reports.
“The legal framework should be improved by the next Parliament, but for the upcoming elections, the state institutions should fulfill their duties with maximum responsibility so as to ensure free and fair elections,” said President Sandu.
She welcomed the fact that the PACE decided to send an election observation mission to Chisinau after this was not possible in 2020 owing to the pandemic.
