President Maia Sandu was met with applause at the polling stations where she voted. She noted that these elections are about the power of the people, not about the power of politicians and encouraged the people to believe in their power.

According to Maia Sandu, today the citizens can get rid of thieves by electing an honest Parliament that would work in the interests of the citizens. “The parliamentary elections are important. Parliament manages the country’s money, the citizens’ money. That’s why we should be attentive when we decide who to entrust the country’s money to,” said President Sandu, noting today’s choice will also determine the laws that will be voted by the future MPs.

The official stated that she voted for order in the country, for an honest Parliament that would work together with the Government for the citizen’s wellbeing. She called on the citizens to take the next step and clean Parliament together with other state institutions so as to do the planned things till the end.

President Sandu noted she received signals that the election process is compromised and called on those in charge to ensure appropriate conditions or they will be penalized.

Polling stations are open until 9pm. For the elections to be validated, the voter turnout should be of 1/3 of the citizens eligible to vote.
