“Moldovan patriots, who are an absolute majority in our country, are on Ukraine’s side and firmly condemn Russia’s war against the Ukrainian people”, President Maia Sandu stated at the second Summit of the Crimea Platform.
According to a press release from the presidential staff, the consequences of the war extend beyond Ukraine and the region as the food and energy crises grow more pronounced. “We are a peaceful country and a peaceful people with a firm commitment to a world where the fundamental principles of international law are respected and protected. But we cannot build stable regional security in a world without rules. No country will ever feel safe”, declared the Moldovan president.
Maia Sandu said that our country will continue to offer international protection to Ukrainians seeking refuge. “We received and will continue to welcome with open arms the Ukrainians who had to leave their homes. We will continue to help whatever humanitarian issues may arise along the way”, she stated.
The Moldovan president recalled that the Crimean Platform was established based on the idea that the international order works only when it is based on rules, non-use of force, respect for human rights and economic growth.
The Crimea Platform is a diplomatic initiative of Ukraine which aims to become an international mechanism for coordinating the effort to put the subject of Crimea back on the agenda, with the goal of restoring Ukraine’s control over the peninsula. The Platform’s inaugural summit took place last year on August 23, on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
