Candidate for President Maia Sandu promises that if she is elected President, she will not allow naming a person with integrity-related problems as prosecutor general. In a news conference, Maia Sandu said the current government only simulates the fight against corruption and the justice sector reform, IPN reports.

According to the candidate, corruption is the biggest problem of the Republic of Moldova, but the political class pretends to be cracking down on corruption because it is the first that will be punished if justice is fair. The justice sector reform and corruption fighting will be her top priorities while in the office of President.

Maia Sandu, who heads the Party “Action and Solidarity”, demands that the prosecutor general should be appointed in accordance with the new Law on the Prosecution Service, which is to be chosen by the Superior Council of Prosecutors and named by the Head of State. According to her, the contest is now simulated and it is rumored that acting prosecutor general Eduard Harunjen will be appointed as prosecutor general. The candidate noted she will never name Eduard Harunjen to this post because he has credibility-related problems.

Maia Sandu considers the Superior Council of Prosecutors is no longer credible. Moreover, besides credibility-related problems, some of the Council members work illegally as they should have been suspended from the post of prosecutor while serving on the Council.

The candidate for President said she will reject all the candidates proposed by the Superior Council of Prosecutors for prosecutor general if there is information about their lack of integrity.
