Poland is an important source of security in the region. The Republic of Moldova will strengthen cooperation with Poland in the field of security, including cybersecurity. At the same time, Poland’s development experience is very valuable to the Republic of Moldova, which is interested in undertaking good practices from Poland in such sectors as agriculture, local development, fiscal administration and digital transformation of public services, President Maia Sandu stated after a meeting with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda during her first official visit as the Head of State to Poland, which is paid at the invitation of her Polish counterpart, IPN reports.

President Sandu said the Republic of Moldova chose the European modernization path. “I’m confident that the snap elections of July 11 will confirm this path. I note here the gratitude to the Polish authorities for their readiness to support the organization of the July 11 elections for our citizens who settled in Poland. The cooperation with Poland for the purpose of modernizing the Republic of Moldova and making progress on the path of European integration is very important for us. We have what to learn from the Poles. The Republic of Moldova has a complex agenda with the European Union, based on the provisions of the Association Agreement. We appreciate the consistent support provided by Poland for the European aspirations of our country and for Moldova’s inclusion in European assistance programs,” stated Maia Sandu, mentioning in particular the EC’s €600m Economic Recovery Plan intended for Moldova.

The official noted that the two countries have good cooperation potential in the modernization of agriculture and strengthening of exchanges of good practices between the local public authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Poland, at the level of voivodeships (provinces) and the Regional Development Agencies. “In this regard, we appreciate the inclusion of the Republic of Moldova into the list of states that receive Polish development assistance through the platform Polish Aid and through the Solidarity Fund of Poland, which implements multiple projects in our country, in agriculture and regional development,” said President Sandu, adding Poland is a reliable partner, ally and supporter of the Republic of Moldova and also an important source of stability, economic growth and modernization at regional level.

For his part, Andrzej Duda said Poland is hopeful the upcoming parliamentary elections will end with the election of a parliamentary majority that will enable to stabilize the situation in the country and to do the reforms needed for ensuring economic development, for achieving democratic standards and for strengthening the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova. “I hope that after the elections, we will be able to bank on the next cooperation stages. After the elections, there should be a stable parliamentary majority with which the President could perform state tasks. We shared a number of democratic experiences and are ready to also share the experience that brought good results and also that of what we didn’t manage to do so that the Republic of Moldova knows how to avoid particular actions and this can lead to the accelerated development of the state,” noted Andrzej Duda.

The Polish official said Poland will always be near the Moldovan community. They consider the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova should be kept in the internationally recognized borders. “We will always support the Republic of Moldova in all the actions that will lead to this integrity and that will be aimed at a stable situation. The Republic of Moldova this way will become a strong, integral country. I thanked Missus President for the care offered to the Polish minority. Missis President can count on our support within a number of international institutions of which Poland is a party. Poland is a friendly country that will support all the democratic processes in the Republic of Moldova, will support those politicians who want the Republic of Moldova to be democratic and want the democratic processes there to expand,” stated Andrzej Duda.

Also today, President Maia Sandu will meet with the Marshal of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek and the Marshal of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki.
