Maia Sandu overwhelmingly wins vote of Moldovans abroad

At the out-of-country polling stations, the Party of Action and Solidarity’s candidate for President Maia Sandu leads with over 70% of the poll, IPN reports, quoting he preliminary presidential elections results.

With 136 of the 139 vote reports from the polling stations abroad being counted, the leader of the Our Party Renato Usatyi is shown to be the second with 17.31% of the vote abroad.

Independent Igor Dodon, who enjoys the support of the Party of Socialist’s and who will most probably compete with Maia Sandu in the runoffs, gained only 3.65% of the vote of the Moldovans abroad.

The pro-European challenger Maia Sandu beat the pro-Russia incumbent Igor Dodon at national level too. Yesterday night Maia Sandu came second with 32.26% of the poll after 93% of the ballots were counted. Igor Dodon was leading with 35.79% of the poll. Overnight, the situation changed and the PAS leader is now in the lead with 36.12%, with Igor Dodon coming behind with 32.64% with 99.9% of the ballots counted.
