During President Klaus Iohannis' mandate, the Republic of Moldova could always rely on Romania's support, having a reliable friend in Bucharest. "The relations between the two sides of the Prut River are stronger and more comprehensive than ever." This was the statement made by President Maia Sandu following the resignation of Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on February 12, IPN reports.

According to Maia Sandu, Moldova was able to count on Romania during Klaus Iohannis' mandate, from energy supply to local infrastructure projects in villages, from vaccines during the pandemic to the construction of new bridges—both literally and figuratively.

The head of state also highlighted that Moldova's economy is stronger thanks to Romanian investments, and many schools and kindergartens have improved due to the generous support received. "Our European path would not have been possible without Romania’s sincere and unconditional support," Maia Sandu wrote on Facebook.

Two days ago, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced his resignation during a briefing at the Cotroceni Palace. The Romanian leader explained that he was stepping down "to spare Romania and its citizens from a crisis and negative developments, which would result from the impeachment procedure initiated in the Romanian Parliament".
