Maia Sandu: Moldova enters new stage of cooperation with partner countries

“The Republic of Moldova enters a new stage of cooperation with the partner countries and this is a relationship based on transparency and mutual trust,” President Maia Sandu stated in a meeting with Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

“I’m firmly convinced that the renewal of the political dialogue and restoration of relations with the European partners will contribute to building the rule of law, strengthening a true democracy and a functional economy,” stated Maia Sandu.

The meeting with European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn centered on the intensification of economic cooperation, the importance of the EU support for the Republic of Moldova and the authorities’ wish to continue to liberalize the services and to further integrate the country into the European economy.

In the meeting with European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, President Maia Sandu underlined the necessity of implementing a real justice sector reform that would enable to Republic of Moldova to develop also other areas.

“The fight against corruption and the creation of strong and independent institutions are the basic preconditions for improving the life of our citizens. Commissioner Reynders assured me that the European Union will continue to support our European path by backing the reforms and efforts aimed at building a modern state,” noted Maia Sandu.

She thanked the European officials for the assistance offered to the Republic of Moldova in time and for safeguarding citizens’ interests even during periods when the country’s administration went against the European values and principles to which the Republic of Moldova adhered.

President Maia Sandu’s official visit to Brussels ends on January 19.
