President Maia Sandu does not hurry to sign the decree on the appointment of Yevgenia Gutsul as a member of the Cabinet of the Republic of Moldova. The official said the legislation does not stipulate a time limit by which the appointment decree should be signed, while the presence of the new Bashkan at the meetings of the Cabinet is not urgently needed. The gaining of control over the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia by representatives of a criminal grouping is a problem for the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

By a decree signed by President Maia Sandu, the new Bashkan of Gagauzia Yevgenia Gutsul and the speaker of the People’s Assembly in Comrat Dmitry Constantinov were excluded from the composition of the National Commission for European Integration. The official explained that the two representatives of Gagauzia are not interested in the European integration of Moldova.

“Mister Constantinov attended only one meeting of those we held until now. It is evident that there is no interest. The commission consists of people who work for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and we do not need to include people who are against or are indifferent to this objective. That’s why we made these changes,” Maia Sandu stated in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.

Under the law on the special legal status of Gagauzia, the governor of the region is confirmed to the post of Cabinet member by a presidential decree. President Maia Sandu said that she does not hurry to sign such a decree because there are suspicions that the new Bashkan acts in the interests of another state. Through the agency of the new Bashkan who was a member of the former Shor Party, the Kremlin will attempt to destabilize the situation in Moldova.

“Not even the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia came to terms with this person, not to mention us. We do not have to hurry. The law does not stipulate an appointment time limit. As long as things are not clear in the autonomous unit, we do not need to hurry and take this decision. There are also particular suspicions about this person. In the Cabinet, the people work for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and these respect the state. When there are suspicions that someone forms part of a criminal grouping or serves the interests of another state, we need to probe things and do not need to rush the decision. The law does not impose deadlines. It is a problem when the representative of a criminal group comes to head a region. Something like this is part of the hybrid war that is being waged by the Russian Federation against the Republic of Moldova,” said President Sandu.

On May 22, the Comrat Appeals Court validated the election of the Bashkan of Gagauzia. The representative of the Shor Party that was later declared unconstitutional gained 52.34% of the vote.
