The Moldovans want to remain part of the free world, to live in safety and to achieve their dream to join the European Union. This is the message transmitted by President Maia Sandu to the U.S. President Joe Biden in a meeting they had in Warsaw, Poland. The leader of the White House gave a public speech in Poland in connection with the one year of the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

The two officials discussed the consequences of the war in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova and the efforts to keep peace and order in the country. Maia Sandu said that in the difficult situation in which the Republic of Moldova is now, with a war on the border, the support of the U.S. is increasingly necessary for building economic resilience.

“We are grateful to the people of the U.S. for the assistance offered by the U.S. Government the past year in overcoming the energy crisis. This enabled us to offer guarantees to the citizens with low incomes so that they can easier cope with the higher prices of energy resources. We further bank on the U.S. Government’s support in our efforts to diversify the energy resources and to strengthen energy security,” said Maia Sandu.

She noted that the American friends have stood by the Republic of Moldova since the first years of independence and continue supporting the Moldovans in these hard times. Maia Sandu invited Joe Biden to visit the Republic of Moldova.

U.S. President Joe Biden paid a visit to Poland on Tuesday after making an unannounced visit to Kyiv.
