President Maia Sandu next week will come up with a solution for breaking the political deadlock experienced by the Republic of Moldova. This week she will not nominate a candidate for Prime Minister and expects the MPs to undertake publicly that an eventual candidate proposed for premiership will not be voted in by the legislature, IPN reports.

“I will propose a solution I consider suitable in this situation next week. We will see if until then we can obtain a public commitment to induce snap parliamentary elections by the rejection of the candidate for Prime Minister by Parliament for two times,” President Sandu stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The official noted she insists on the inducing of snap parliamentary elections as soon as possible and considers that the idea of an anti-crisis Government is not a solution as, without political support in the legislature, the executive will be unable to fulfill the commitments made to the people.

“A functional government is the one that is supported by a majority. An anti-crisis Government should first of all help the people at medical and economic levels. How can a Government that is not backed by Parliament help the citizens if it cannot make changes to the budget law? The farmers wait for allocations from the budget. A Government that does not enjoy support in Parliament cannot provide assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises.”

Maia Sandu said she expects the MPs to adopt the document proposed by the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) by which to pledge not to vote for the candidate proposed for the premiership for two times so that snap parliamentary elections could be called.

The PAS MPs suggested adopting a Parliament decision by which the MPs will undertake to not ensure a quorum at the plenary sittings where the candidate for Prime Minister will present the government program and will ask for the legislative body’s vote of confidence for the next executive.
