After over 97% of the minutes were processed, President Maia Sandu thanked all the citizens. She said that Moldova managed to show its will and strength through the vote of every citizen, IPN reports.

"Dear Moldovans, I thank each one of you for going out to vote, regardless of your option. This means that in your souls, you carry the love for the country. I thank all the Moldovans, from villages and cities, from small and large localities. Today, you have shown that we are Moldova, with good and bad sides," said Maia Sandu.

"Our diaspora has given us today another lesson from which each of us must learn something," stated Maia Sandu, mentioning the record number of citizens who voted outside the country.

Maia Sandu also addressed her opponent, noting that she appreciates the call for unity made by Alexandr Stoianoglo.

Even if the preliminary results in the country are in favor of Alexandr Stoianoglo, with a difference of 32,000 votes, Maia Sandu leads by the overall score due to the votes given by the electors of the diaspora.

With 2,183 of the total 2,219 minutes processed, Maia Sandu gains 54.64% of the vote, while Alexandr Stoianoglo obtains 45.36% of the ballot.
