The presidential elections must be won by a representative of the real opposition, who would dilute the power concentrated in the hands of one person. In this regard, politicians Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase bear great responsibility because the people are disappointed and the two must swiftly decide who will remain in the race for the presidency, ex-ambassador and ex-member of the Democratic Party Andrei Popov stated in the program “Forth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

“If they cannot decide who should run themselves, they can hold a draw. Andrei Nastase in the second round and victory in elections is the worst scenario for those who now hold the knife and bread. Andrei Nastase has resisted media attacks against him during many months. It’s not known if Maia Sandu is able to cope with such attacks,” stated Andrei Popov.

As regards the chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, who is also a candidate for President, Andrei Popov said this politician is not the representative of the real opposition. Iurie Leanca was a hope, but became a disappointment in half a year. However, Iurie Leanca cannot be ‘Plahotniuc’s man’. “As far as I know, Iurie Leanca is an upright man. I do not see him stealing through different schemes. He has been used,” said the former ambassador to Austria.

As to the Socialist leader Igor Dodon, who also aspires to the office of President, Andrei Popov said this represents a systemic and structured force that works at local level, has volunteers, films and all kinds of promotional activities. “It is a force that, in the absence of other powerful candidates on the center-left, has the biggest chances. But I do not see attacks on him. The instruments of the power are not used against Dodon and I ask myself why – he is left for desert or is a candidate that suits the current government,” stated Andrei Popov.
