The youth arm of the European Action Movement (MAE) took the occasion of Europe's Day to found the European Youth Forum, making its goals known to the general public at a press conference on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to MAE's spokesperson Dina Ivanov, the Forum has been constituted in response to a social necessity, determined by the worrisome statistics concerning the youth. The young persons in Moldova do not have a clear vision of their future, no hopes for the future, and do not believe that Moldova could one day become a country in which their dreams would come true. This pessimism tends to go deeper as the Youth Year decreed by President Voronin proves to be a failure, said Ivanov. Andrei Pavaloi, the chairman of the newly established assembly, says that the founding conference of the the Forum, which was attended by over 820 young persons from different parts of Moldova, including the autonomous unit of Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region, addressed the most burning issues troubling the youth, including the lack of access to truthful information. The youth are left to their own devices, while thousands are unable to find a job. The organizers of the conference have read the Appeal of the Forum, which says the Communist government is just pretending to drive Moldova closer to the European Union, not to mention joining NATO. “For the Moldovan youth, the incitation to national hatred, in particular against Romania, and the limitation of access to education abroad, especially in Romania, by the Communist government is unacceptable”, the document says. The Appeal also reads that the MAE will further promote a special policy towards the youth, which includes education, employment opportunities, participation in the public life, and support for the youth.
