The building materials manufacturer Macon didn’t fully cease operations and continues selling products from its stores, said Minister of Economy Sergiu Gaibu. He noted that the plant conserved production for several months, as it does each year. A bill was drafted to deal with the competition discrepancy caused by the differences in energy prices, IPN reports.

The minister noted that technological service works are performed in the period that coincides with the period of a lower demand. As the company announced that it cannot cope with the unfair competition from the Rybnitsa steel works that pays much lower prices for gas and electricity, they will propose a bill to help the manufacturer. The bill was thought up by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the Competition Council and the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance and will be soon published for public consultations.

“Officials of the Ministry of Economy had a meeting with representatives of SA Macon and discussed the competition discrepancy and the risks to which the company is exposed, including the possibility of implementing a policy in this regard,” stated Sergiu Gaibu.

According to him, any company that experiences difficulties caused by the economic crisis can seek help form the Ministry of Labor for applying the technological unemployment mechanism so that the states contributes and keeps the jobs by subsiding the technological unemployment benefit.

The building materials manufacturer SA Macon or the Chisinau bricks factory is one of the oldest companies in the Republic of Moldova. It has operated uninterruptedly for 122 years and now employs 320 persons.
