The Parliament of Moldova is open to a constructive and pragmatic dialogue with the Federal Assembly of Russia, as well as to inter-parliamentary cooperation at the level of commissions and friendship groups, stated Speaker Marian Lupu at a meeting with the newly-appointed Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farid Mukhametshin, noting that parliamentary cooperation had an important role in the development of the Moldo-Russian
relationship in all areas.
As the Parliament's press service reported, Marian Lupu requested the Russian Ambassador's assistance in resuming the activity of the Commission for Inter-parliamentary Cooperation between the Moldovan Parliament and the Russian Federal Assembly which is supposed to assemble twice a year.
Lupu further informed Mukhametshin that at the recent CIS Summit in Almaty the Moldovan delegation set forth the proposal to establish a Summit of CIS heads of legislatures, proposing to host the first event of this kind in September in Chisinau.
Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin promised to contribute to the advancement of the centuries-long Moldo-Russian relationship, including of its parliamentary dimension. According to the Ambassador, Russia and Moldova should have a relationship based on mutual trust at the levels of state leaderships, parliaments and civil societies.
