There is a great need to attract young people to education as soon as possible because they can be closer to the needs and emotions of children given that both the former and the latter were born in the digital era, Lucian Liviusz Olteanu, an associate professor of “Gál Ferenc” University of Gyula, Hungary, stated in a public debate titled “Educational bridges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova”.

According to Lucian Liviusz Olteanu, his generation was born before the digital generation, but it has acquired this skill. Now, he believes that the generation born in the digital era needs to learn to communicate. There is a big discrepancy between older teachers, who usually have a harder time interpreting children’s gestures and emotions, because they are not born in the information age. The new generations of teachers can be the way to better understand children.

The associate professor noted that in Hungary, as well as in Romania, teachers who have been teaching different subjects for some years have been working together, such as teachers of mathematics, chemistry, computer science. At the same time, difficulties are experienced with exact sciences because there are fewer and fewer teachers. In this connection, the state needs to invent new subjects and integrate them into one subject that will be taught by a teacher. The teachers are not highly appreciated. The status of the teacher should be raised and the presence of teachers of exact sciences could be then more stable.

Lucian Liviusz Olteanu also said that in Hungary, several days of a year are dedicated to vocations, which include online psychological tests. Based on the results of the tests, the children are divided by interests. This is also done in secondary schools and also in high schools, where universities become involved with their faculties. The family and its capacities to support the child are the most important thing in the choice of the vocation.

The public debate entitled “Educational bridges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova” was the 15th installment of the project “Double integration through cooperation and information. Continuity”, funded by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova. The content of this debate does not represent the official position of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova.
