The famous poem of Mihai Eminescu “Luceafarul” was translated into Russian by writer Mihail Lupashko. The book “Zagadka Eminescu”, launched on August 8, will be distributed to the libraries of a number of Russian teaching schools, IPN reports.

By this work, the author aims to unite society that, according to him, is divided into two camps – speakers of Romanian and speakers of Russian. The book contains the poem “Luceafarul” in two languages and a literary study about the genius Mihai Eminescu. “We will give all the issued copies of the book to the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport so that the students who study in Russian could read a contemporary version. The last translation was made in the Soviet time and is full of ideologies,” said the author.
Mihail Lupashko noted that he plans to translate other operas of the great poet and operas written by other authors, such as Nichita Stanescu, in the near future. He thus wants to bring the readers who speak Russian closer to the Romanian literature. According to him, the crisis of which even the politicians make use can be overcome by cultural dialogue.
The Education Division’s spokesman Elena Vorotneac said that this volume has an enormous significance, especially for the students speaking other languages than Romanian, who study the works of Eminescu in the original, but need a translation to understand them better. “This translation is perfect because Mihai Lupashko perceived the essence of the poem. He didn’t translate mot à mot, but made effort to understand the Slavic language and culture because our metaphors are different from those of the Slavs and carry a message that can be understood with difficulty by another culture. But he managed to do this,” she stated.
Journalist Mihai Contiu stated that author enables the Russian readers to discover the works of Eminescu. “One should be very courageous and should think profoundly poetically to try and translate “Luceafarul” and I’m convinced that Mihail Lupashko has poetical and authentic experiences as the translator in this case is a creator and a poet too,” he said.
The book “Zagadka Eminescu” was issued in a number of 300 copies.
