The thresholds for low-value public procurement contracts will be raised by 50%, under an amendment approved by Parliament in the first reading.

In particular, for contracts to buy goods and services, the amount will increase from 200,000 lei to 300,000 lei; for contracts to procure works, from 250,000 lei to 325,000 lei; and for public procurement contracts to buy social services, from 400,000 lei to 600,000 lei.

The amendment comes in response to requests from the local authorities, says MP Ersilia Qatrawi. According to the sponsors of the bill, it is necessary to streamline the activity of the contracting authorities, and the proposed amendment will help them use public money more efficiently.
