After scratching their heads as to how to fit 61 electoral competitors on the ballot for the Comrat City Council, the local authorities have decided the ballots will be printed in a leaflet format. At nearly 3 lei a pop, these ballots are also the upcoming local elections’ most expensive ones.

The Central Electoral Commission announced Tuesday it was starting printing the ballot papers for the October 20 elections. A total 7.8 million ballots will be printed, including 1.69 million in Russian.

The ballot papers for mayoral elections will be pink, except for Chisinau and Balti, where they will take on a purple shade. The village or town council ballots will be smoked gray, and the district or city council ballots will be beige.

With the exception mentioned above, the printing costs of a ballot will range from 0.39 to 0.69 lei, which adds up to a total cost of over 3.6 million lei.
