Local general elections are taking place today in Moldova. The polling stations opened their doors to the voters at 7.00 this morning and will remain open until 21.00.
The voters will receive the ballot papers after presenting an ID paper to the members of the election bureau and will sign under their names in the voter rolls.
According to the Voting Regulations, there is only one person allowed to enter the voting booth at once. If a voter due to physical disabilities is not able to vote without assistance, he/she can be accompanied by another person, but only with the consent of the president of the election bureau.
The electoral legislation provides that no one “except the members of the election bureau of the polling station, candidates, their representatives, accredited delegates” are allowed to stay in the polling station more than the time needed for voting. To avoid the overcrowding, the voters will be invited according to the series corresponding to the number of the booths.
According to the Electoral Code, for the disabled persons who can not be transported, patients in medical institutions, as well as persons held in remand centres, special ballot boxes were prepared. At their request, the presidents of the election bureaus will appoint several members from the bureau, who will transport the necessary materials to the places where the voters are staying.
In case the voting procedures are breached, the citizens can inform the members of the election bureau or the observers working in the polling stations.
About 2 thousand national and international observers were accredited to monitor the local elections which take place on June 3.
