The general local elections this Sunday will be videoed. The Central Election Commission said the videotaping is an additional security measure to ensure transparency in the voting process and the electoral procedures on election day and to prevent eventual fraud, IPN reports.

According to the Commission, the video recording system is not connected to the Interne, is functional and is active only on election day. It will be started when the preparatory electoral operations to open the polling stations begin and will be stopped after the votes are counted.

The system will not be used in voting with the mobile ballot box.

The CEC reiterated that the installation of video cameras in polling stations will not compromise the secrecy of the ballot. The images will not be broadcast live and will be stored on a separate device, exclusively for eventual electoral disputes, and could be used as evidence when examining such disputes.
