The central authorities of Moldova do not have the right to declare the referendums held in Gagauzia on February 2 as illegal as they violate the Constitution this way, said deputy of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Ivan Burgudji. In a news conference held in Chisinau on Wednesday, Burgudji stated that many Chisinau analysts and representatives of the mass media are paid to stage an informational war against Gagauzia, IPN reports.
According to the local deputy, the Comrat Court’s decision to invalidate the decisions of People’s Assembly concerning the organization of referendums will be challenged in international courts. The residents of Gagauzia have the right to state their political views, while the Electoral Commission from the region is not obliged to ask the permission of the Central Election Commission for organizing such a plebiscite.
Ivan Burgudji also said that the investigation launched by the Prosecutor General’s Office into the referendums is not based on legal reasons. The accusations of arbitrariness made by the prosecutors imply causing of considerable damage to the state. But no money from the state budget was spent on the referendums held in Gagauzia.
The deputy expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the voice of the Gagauz people is not heard. The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia drafted a legislative initiative by which it demands allotting five seats for deputies elected in Gagauzia in the future Parliament of Moldova. Otherwise, the region’s inhabitants will boycott the elections.
