“The priority of the new composition of the Audiovisual Council is to restore confidence in this public institution as an institution that can correctly apply the Code, can act so as to contribute to the development of the national press, can protect the information space, can come with actions to solve the problems concerning advertising, audience measurement, ownership transparency. I want the Council to be a partner of media service providers as our goal is not to acts as gendarmes, but to contribute to developing the national audiovisual sector,” stated Liliana Vițu-Eșanu.

Aneta Gonța, who was elected vice president, said that among the Council’s priorities is to offer media education so that the citizens are able to analyze the quality of media products and their impact. “The Audiovisual Council should be a guarantor of the public interest, not of economic or political interests. Media education is an important aspect. The goal is not to ban the broadcasting of particular content, but to educate the public so that they know how to choose between fake and real, to know what propaganda and disinformation are” she stated.

The new composition of the Audiovisual Council that will server a six-year term was confirmed by Parliament on December 3.
