The deputy chairman of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Lilian Carp is the party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau in the local general elections of this autumn. The announcement was made in a news conference on Monday morning, IPN reports.

The head of PAS Chisinau Alex Trubca said that the Convention of the PAS’s Local Organization in Chisinau held on June 11 decided, by secret vote, to support Lilian Carp’s intention to run for mayor of the capital city.

Negotiations and public debates will be held the next few days with representatives of civil society to discuss the future electoral program for the municipality of Chisinau.

MP Lilian Carp said the municipality of Chisinau does not belong to a candidate or a party. It faces real problems that need to be solved and needs a fresh impetus to develop. The infernal traffic jams are one of the pressing problems of the capital city and its suburbs. Urban comfort, asphalted roads and neat yards are also important. He will soon start discussions with experts so as to identify real solutions to the problems experienced by the city

PAS chairman Igor Grosu said that the pro-Kremlin party in 2019 regrettably won the mayoral elections in Chisinau and this had a negative impact on the Republic of Moldova and its European perspective. The regaining of Chisinau by the pro-European parties is the task for the upcoming elections. The local elections are the strategic objectives for this year, together with the opening of accession negotiations with the EU. Throughout his political career, Lilian Carp has been consistent and supported the European path.
