The Liberal Party (PL) has expressed its deep concern about the recent statements made by the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon, regarding the vote of the diaspora in the elections in the Republic of Moldova. A statement by the PL’s National Council says that all citizens have the right to vote, regardless of their place of residence, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the European Convention on Human Rights, IPN reports.

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu stressed that the party he leads is grateful to the diaspora for its decisive contribution in all the elections that took place in the Republic of Moldova, the diaspora being the conscious and active part of society. "By joining efforts, together we can hasten the Union with Romania," said Mihai Ghimpu.

In a press briefing last week, the Socialist leader stated that Alexandr Stoianoglo, the candidate supported by the Socialists, was elected President of the country by the citizens living in Moldova, while Maia Sandu remained the President only of the diaspora.
