The Liberal Party (LP) expressed publicly its solidarity towards students, their parents and the teachers of the Romanian-French Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”. The disapproval of the pupils regarding the tentative of the present government to falsify the name of the lyceum represents according to LP an act of high national conscience, civic attitude and patriotism.
The deputy chairman of LP, Dorin Chirtoaca, declared on Thursday, May 11, at a press conference that the decision to start proceedings against 4 pupils of the lyceum “is disgraceful and abject”. As well, he qualified the declaration of the prime-minister, Vasile Tralev, regarding the necessity to call the pupils to account as “irresponsible, revolting, dangerous and inconceivable in a democratic society”. These kinds of declarations, Chirtoaca states, promote violence and repression, which are characteristic to totalitarian regimes.
The actions of the Government regarding the name of the lyceum, along with introducing the integrated history course, of reducing the number of Romanian language lessons, publishing the Moldo-Romanian dictionary represent, according to Chirtoaca, soviet policy denationalisation instruments, of promoting the theory of primitive “Moldovanship”, of changing history and national culture. These actions violate the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, democratic principles and our European aspirations, added the quoted source.
LP appealed to the civil society to join the pupils and to shore up their actions. Liberals urge, at the same time, for halting the proceedings against those four children or against any other pupils. As well, LP demands the prime-minister to unsay his declaration and to present public apologizes and the minister of education, youth and sport not to impose the change of the real name of the lyceum that is Romanian-French Lyceum.
In case this demands will be ignored, LP holds right to start protest actions, added Dorin Chirtoaca, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
