The initiative of the lawmaker of the Democratic Party (PDM) Igor Corman to exempt the Moldovans who bring into the country the goods acquired abroad from taxes was rejected by the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration by the votes of the Liberal-Democratic and Communist lawmakers, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the PDM.
According to the communiqué, the deputy chairman of the PDM Igor Corman, who heads the mentioned commission, proposed changing the legislation so as to allow the Moldovans who worked abroad and decided to return home to bring the goods obtained there without paying customs and import duties.
“Regretfully, in the March 6 meeting of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy, the representatives of the PLDM and PCRM voted against this initiative of the PDM, which is aimed at facilitating the return of the Moldovans who went abroad. The Democratic Party describes as irresponsible the solidarity gesture of these MPs against the interests of the Moldovan people,” reads the communiqué.
The PDM calls on society to follow the evolution of this matter, including its examination by other standing commissions and in Parliament. “For the time being, the programs announced by the Government and the promises to favor the return of our people who went abroad are fruitless. There are too many bureaucratic barriers and one of the main difficulties is the customs duties imposed on the things acquired by our people abroad. These payments should be eliminated,” said the party.
