Level of poverty in Moldova comparable to African countries

Almost a half of the population of the Republic of Moldova lives under the poverty level. More than 60 million persons of the region have a daily existence minimum smaller than two dollars, and for a quarter of the population for the region the life expectancy is less than 60 years. This data is included in the new Report of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), made public within the Forum on social corporative responsibility the Central, Eastren European and CIS Countries, which took place on June 19 and 20, in Vienna, Austria. Those over 200 participants at the Forum, representatives of the private area and of the international community dealing with development problems, debate the methods of increasing the role of business in the support offered to states in the process of poverty and hunger eradication, strengthening health, environment protection, ensuring access to drinkable water and sanitary services. The Forum on social corporative responsibility in Central, Eastern and CIS countries is organized by the Government of Austria, UNDP, UN Industrial Development Organization together with the office of UN Global Agreement, the Government of Belgium and other European, states or economic structures.
