The Leușeni road was blocked again by protesting farmers with their tractors on Thursday. The police inform that they are on the spot to divert and streamline traffic, IPN reports.

The General Police Inspectorate said the fact that the organizers do not inform about their intention to block the road creates new inconvenience to other citizens.

On Facebook live, Sergiu Stefanco, a farmer from Causeni district, one of the leaders of the protests, drove his tractor to the Leușeni customs post. Although the farmers had two meetings with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Stefanco says that these were mimicked. According to him, the farmers demanded to be paid subsidies, as the law provides, demanded to be distributed diesel fuel from Romania. Due to the incompetence of the Moldovan Government, the farmers risk failing to benefit from this donation, while the price of diesel fuel rises daily. The farmers don’t want money because they understand that there is not enough money in the state budget, but they want to have access to fair loans, inputs, etc.

Earlier this week, farmers had talks at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and with Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The farmers were informed about the emergency farm loan identified as a solution to start the agricultural season. The mechanism, which is due to become functional on March 1, will allow farmers to access loans of up to 500,000 lei with a 90% guarantee from the state. For their part, the farmers said that this amount can be kept only for micro farmers and should be doubled for the other farmers.

A new meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry with farmers is planned for Friday.
